Event FAQs
What is this event about?
It's a fundraiser featuring a 5k race and a half-mile fun run jointly hosted by Barberton Kiwanis Club and Barberton Historical Society.
Where is the event located?
The event takes place at 248 Robinson Avenue in Barberton, Ohio, in a building called the "Piggery" because it originally housed O. C. Barber's prized pigs. Please enter the parking area from 1st Street as the main driveway to the Piggery will be closed off for the runners' safety. Best route: 2nd St to Quincy to 1st & into parking.
Who sponsors this race?
Community businesses and organizations sponsor the race through donations, which are acknowledged on runners' shirts and on this web site. Please patronize these companies and thank them for their active community support and involvement!
What prizes are available?
All visitors and all runners have a chance to win door prizes (mini-silent-auction). The first three guys and the first three girls to cross the 5K finish line will win cash prizes. The first three guys and the first three girls in each of nine age groups will receive a medal. Everyone - in the 5K and the Fun Run - will receive a commemorative Tee to signify their participation in this event.
Is there food available?
Yes, free coffee will be provided by Anna Bean Coffee Company for all attendees. There will also be some donuts, and for the runners free water and salty snacks.
How can I participate?
You can register for the race online or at the event. Join us for a fun-filled day!
Will I get a TEE if I register after late August?
Register by August 27th to be guaranteed a correctly-sized TEE in time for the race. We will have extra TEEs made for runners registering after the 27th.
Is there also an Auction at this Event?
Barberton Kiwanis has conducted a Silent Auction for many years now. The auctions have previously taken place during the Mum Fest Celebration. This year, a mini-auction will take place during the Barber Classic 5K and Fun Run. Instead of drawing winners names for door prizes, we will let you identify the prizes you are most interested in and then randomly draw names for winners.
All participants in either the 5K Run or the Fun Run will be given $5 worth of tickets, each of which can be used to take a chance on the auction items. Auction items include gift certificates for restaurants and grocery stores (for example, a $50 gift certificate for Giant Eagle on 5th Street), golf outings, professional sports memorabilia, and more.
Runners and non-runners are able to purchase additional tickets for the auction items at the registration table: 1 ticket for $1 or 6 tickets for $5! Winners will be drawn at 10 am inside the Piggery. Must be present to win an auction item.
Some of the auction items include a $50 gift card for Lala's Restaurant, a $50 gift certificate for Giant Eagle on 5th Street, several golf outings, and lots of professional sports memorabilia.
